Good sharpener at a great price, but could use some instructions This sharpener did a great job on my kitchen knives, but I had to figure out how to use it myself. It would have been nice to have some basic instructions. The 320 grit side has a 20 degree indicator, meaning to hold the knife at that angle while sharpening. It would have been nice to have the same angle guide for the 600 grit side, because most likely you’ll be using both sides while sharpening. The tungsten side and ceramic side are presumably for you to run along the edge of the blade as if you were whittling the knife. I didn’t have as much success sharpening the knife this way.I also tried sharpening a ceramic blade, and the results weren’t as good as when sharpening steel edges.I was honestly surprised that this sharpener did such a great job considering the price. This is a great sharpener for touch ups between serious sharpening. For that purpose, I recommend this sharpener.
Pretty much a perfect pocket sharpener at an excellent price. This is an excellent sharpener for the field or garage. The main attraction is the two flat diamond sides. I would recommend avoiding the carbide on anything in general, but could potentially be useful to start an edge on a blunted tool or a damaged axe. In general the carbide cutting edges will ruin your knifes, so take care with this. Otherwise, this is a great little tool at at a very good price. It’s not really meant to give razor sharp results, but will give a good enough edge in the field. You technically can get a decent edge with the small piece of ceramic, but you’re probably better off moving to a separate finishing stone for extra sharp edges on a pocket or kitchen knife.
Lack Of Documentation This seems to be a well constructed device, but I’ve been searching all over for how to properly use this to sharpen my multitool, but I’ve been unsuccessful. I’d love to rate this properly, but with no included user manual or easily located documentation online, I cannot properly put it through sharpening to accurately rate it.
Instructions would be helpful… …to understand how this is intended to be used. The pictures on the listing don’t match the product, so I have a 320 grit strip with a 17° and 20° guide (to start, it doesn’t have any way to travel with the knife), and a flat 600 grit side without any guides. Then there are the two end pieces, but no angle guides there or instructions on how to use them. It just ends up offering the same functionality that my basic whetstone offers.
A good, useful tool I have several knife sharpening devices ranging from motor driven to diamond covered.ALL of them cost more than this little sharpener. I’ve used this one on pocket knives and multi-tool blades so far and it performed flawlessly and resurrected a good sharp edge with minimum effort. Easy to hold and use and a good combination of gauges from semi-coarse to fine. On the farm here, we use knives several times a day, every day for everything from cutting hay twine to plastic bale cover, leather, rubber and even wood occasionally. Sharp is required. This tool is well worth the money.
Yard tools only This will work on pocket knives, but itâs a relatively low grit, so it doesnât provide the best edge. The 17° and 20° angles are helpful, but thereâs no way to guide it consistently down, since itâs just at either end and only on the roughest grit. It would be difficult to maintain degree angle with a larger or curved item.If youâve got yard tools you need to sharpen, and you donât care about the angle, this will work, any thing that requires any level of precision, youâll need to pass on these. Also, no instructions or tips at all.
Works great at a great price. We have a number of tools that needed sharpening and this did the job admirably! Started with our large bush shears (see in the pic) and the 320 grit side of the sharpener. It goes right to work cleaning up burrs and putting the edge in good order. We finished up with the other side which is 600 and tested it on our grapefruit tree. Snipping a 3/8â branch was like putting a knife through warm butter-easy. This is a very versatile and practical tool. Itâs a bargain at the current price for sure.
