Dig in Your Heels is an Excellent, and Selflessly written memoir about a beautiful woman
I have known Karla Baptiste since high school, we were cheerleaders together. So, when I learned that she was writing a book I couldn’t wait to read it. Dig in Your Heels is an Excellent, and Selflessly written memoir about a beautiful woman, and a beautiful spirit that God has BIG PLANS for! From cover to cover I read this book and enjoyed it so much that I began to write little side messages, and comments along the way – as if I was talking to Karla, and sharing related stories! I just LOVE how Karla shares so much about herself, and finds balance between inserting fun times into her life while still remaining focused on getting better, and healthier, and remaining positive in spite of the diagnosis, the changes that come with a diagnosis, and remaining focused on wanting to help others – all the while remaining “grateful to God” for bringing her each step of the way, and through these trials. I admire Karla for recognizing that her experience is one that has the potential to increase, and improve breast cancer (probably any cancer) survival rates amongst people, especially women. 🙂 I hope, and pray that Karla is blessed infinitely for selflessly caring enough to share her story of cancer diagnosis through chemo to recovery. I think her story is of significant value, and of utmost importance because the cure to any illness, cancer included, should be approached holistically (spiritual, food, family support, exercise, etc.) – and that I believe is unique to Karla’s story, and her success as a breast cancer survivor. I have since purchased (3) three other copies and sent them to friends that I believe can benefit as I have from Karla’s story! One of the areas I love the most in her book are the details she shares at the book of the book that women should remember – e.g. give yourself a breast exam regularly, etc. Karla offers valuable, and helpful information throughout her book – so, even after you purchase and read it, you can go to the end of it, and locate some general suggested activities women can do to self-check themselves regularly. Beautiful story written by a Beautiful lady! 🙂 Blessed to know her, and to be able to genuinely write a (well-overdue) positive review! 🙂 dh xoxo

For Women Survivors of All Ages and Stages
I really enjoyed Karla’s “Dig in Your Heels.” Her story is brave, open, honest, and very funny. She’s a beautiful woman inside and out. And her courage and faith are palpable to the reader. This book is important for women struggling with their health, illness, or a loss.

Regrettably relatable
If you know you know. There’s something oddly comforting when you read someone else’s story and find the relatable bits and you know you’re not alone.Karla is very forthcoming with the details that are not always shared. I only wish that I had read this book earlier in my own journey. When you get to the parts where she reminds you to get checked, pay attention.

A Funny & Witty Read
This book is funny, witty, refreshing and a great look into the life of a Breast Cancer survivor. I laughed and could relate to how life can be interrupted just when you started living. A must read for anyone who finds themselves in a health crisis and needs that extra level of hope (with a laugh) to know life goes on and you can win!!

The Booby Times
Karla has an online journal called The Booby Times. She uses words like “titties”. She tells us about wanting to be touched after she had a mastectomy. This is a serious book about a serious young woman, but she doesn’t take herself “too” seriously. This is an engaging memoir about life and death–but mostly life. Thanks for letting me read your journal, Karla.
