Just the best balanced book for women who are looking for answers … Just the best balanced book for women who are looking for answers when they find out about their husband, and a guide for the crossdresser husband to keep a one in a million woman who decides to stay and share this life
Compassionate and Real The touching stories of real life women who mostly were able to get past the single minded, selfish attitudes of their transgendered (TG) spouse. The book begins with one end of the transgender spectrum, Cross Dressing, and ends with numerous cases where the natal males completes transition from hormone replacement therapy through coming out and eventual Gender Reassignment Surgery. The almost universal self centered attitude of the males was very disappointing. The few cases where a true partnership fostered a blossoming new relationship were very touching.
Excellent read, extremely insightful. I am a gender variant person and my SO is struggling with acceptance. This really helps me to understand what she is feeling
Good perspective from SO POV As a MtF I have a tendency to be self absorbed. Although many of the ideas/feelings expressed in this work I have heard spoken by my SO I don’t believe I truly heard them before reading this book. Very eye opening, I highly recommend this book.
Very informative and uplifting I read this book to make sure that my wife would receive a positive message before suggesting it to her. She found out after eight years of marriage a secret that I have been hiding all my life. She has been supportive but sees her life turned upside down unsure of what the future holds. Most stories online end in a divorce. To her credit she has been supportive and tries to understand what even I myself don’t. I think this will only help her as I found it helpful to me as well in understanding what she is going through.
Unique among trans books. Many important stories. Trans literature is finally paying more attention to the spouses of transwomen. Here are many different stories by wives as they negotiated the future in light of their husband crossdressing or becoming a transwoman. Erhardt’s therapytic analysis is OK, but the real value is bringing all these real stories to us.
A book on a very complex, painful, controversial topic.Content-wise, I think the stories it hold may be easily find all around Internet – except in this book, these stories are professionally arranged, with author’s point of view clearly stated on each case. Which may or may not sound valuable for your case. Can this book help trans families “figure out” their lives? I don’t think so. And I don’t think there is a silver bullet for this situation, at all.But this book does provide some food for thought. And that does may help to someone. So it is better that such books exist.
I have just completed an MA in Psychosocial Studies, and my dissertation specifically looked into “Cross-Dressing in a Psycosocial World”. Whilst, I did not purchase this text until after I had submitted my dissertation, as I am hoping to go on to further postgraduate studies looking into trans issues this book has proved to be very enlightening, especially as many of the life stories are from the female SO’s (Significant Other) perpective of what is is to live with (or not in some cases) a Male to Female Cross-Dresser/Tranvestite/Transsexual/Transgender person, as the majority of the available texts giving only the perspective from the trans person and rarely their SO’s. Therefore, I feel this is a very important book, esspecially for those who work in a counselling environment or other profession where they are likely to have trans clients, it is also a very important text for the partners/SO/families/friends of trans people. A text I would give to my significant other if I had one, and one I have given to my local mental health charity. This is a book with definite North American bias which comes across in some of the support networks listed, that does not though in any way take away the usefulness to readers from whatever side of the ‘Pond’ they come from.
This book is filled with the laments of the poor women who are forced to share the space with a gender variant person. The focus is wrong and it just doesn’t send any good message to trans people.
excellent insight into the world of cross dressinggreat topics that opened up our chats re feelings etca must have for all couples who need a nudge to bring this into the open
