Supportive, comfy, unattractive shoe
I’ve had these shoes for almost two years now. I originally ordered them largely because I was having a hard time finding decent quality hiking shoes with wide sizes. I eventually settled on these, despite thinking they looked like the ugliest features of a sneaker combined with the ugliest features of a hiking boot.Even at my most out of shape, walking in these has always been easy. They’re extremely comfortable and very supportive, while still allowing my foot to move. I haven’t used them a lot in the two years I’ve had them, but I have taken them out for a few longer distances (for a casual hiker) and I’ve been incredibly pleased with their performance. Hiking over rocky surfaces and jumping around on slippery grass, I’ve never had a complaint about how these shoes feel.I’ve worn these shoes in snowy, slushy, and wet conditions, and I’ve only ever had an issue with water when the top of the toe box was submerged for a long step in a creek. Even then, they dried out well and were wearable again the next day without feeling like I was putting on a wet shoe.If you’re looking for performance and don’t care about aesthetics, I highly recommend this shoe. If you want something versatile enough to wear out to a nice dinner after your long day of walking, though, this isn’t it.

Great hiking shoes
I had a pair of Merrell hiking shoes that I wore out. I needed a new pair so I bought myself these. I wore the new shoes hiking in Colorado, the Red Rocks and Rocky Mountains. They were perfect! My daughter and I hiked over 6 miles at both parks and I wore a pair of smart wool smart fit ankle socks and it was a good combination of both. No blisters, great arch support so my legs, knees and feet were not at all sore during or after the hike. They held up perfectly while climbing rocks and going down a dirt and stone mountain trail. The shoes held the ground and there was no slipping, even when I had to cross a stream on foot using rocks, the shoes were superb! Highly recommended. My daughter has the Merrell high tops for hiking as well and no complaints. She goes extreme hiking and rock climbing in her merrells and they hold up so well.

The best shoe purchase I’ve ever made!
I’ve never bought hiking boots/shoes before, and I’ve never bought Merrell shoes before, so I can’t say if the quality is the same as it has always been, but compared to my new balance sneakers these are to die for! I was afraid that buying Merrell shoes was more of a trend for hikers, but now I know that it’s because they really are quality shoes. I bought these because I knew we were going hiking in West Texas and I wanted to make sure I had good grip and support in my shoes. These shoes have the best grip I’ve ever experienced! I was able to walk on slippery, slimy river rocks and smooth rock, with loose stones on top, at a 45 degree angle with ease. Literally no slipping period. I felt confident walking on any terrain for our entire trip. We walked 20+ miles in a few days and I have to say that my feet did hurt, but not because of a lack of support. I think my feet were just tired. I’m usually pretty sedentary. My arches never hurt, and the support in these shoes is also the best arch support I’ve ever experienced. I have a very high arch so I didn’t feel like the arch support was perfectly snug with my arch but it was plenty. The only thing that bothered me when I first wore them was the snugness of the padding overall. It felt great because my foot felt stable and well supported, and I had plenty of room all around, but the cushioning in the top of the shoe where I laced them up felt like it was cutting off circulation. So i just didn’t tie them very tight. I also had thick socks so that didn’t help. After a couple of days this went away. I also have to say that I have never been able to tie my laces only once. I have always double knotted, but these laces never ever came undone even with one knot. And I walked a lot. Up and down mountains and kicking up stones. I would definitely buy these again, and I’m planning on buying these for my teenage daughters as well instead of wasting money on Nike or NB which have no support and no tred!

Wore down before I thought
So I have had these a while. I liked them ok. Fit reg size 8 perfect fit. They broke in easy. I got extra insoles for them. They were a bit harder than id like but overall comfortable. A year later their feels like there’s something in the right shoe near the toes but the seems are worn. I do wear them mostly every day but I’m still surprised the seems are popping out in the toe line like that. So it’s a slight annoyance. The first six months were good. A bit dissatisfied with how fast the wear and tear is coming now. Merrill usually makes better quality products. My last ones I had three years. But I still give it four stars for the first six months. Not bad. Especially if they aren’t your mostly every day shoes.

Comfortable and sturdy right out of the box!
I was not a hiker when I bought these, but I bought them for my first hiking trip in the NC mountains. They were comfortable with no break-in period required. They were great on the short but steep 1 mile hike so I tried them on a longer hike. After 5 miles of uneven and elevated terrain with rocks, tree roots, and creek-crossings, these babies were still comfortable. They are also cool, even in this 100 degree weather. I love them!

Very comfortable, low profile walking shoes
I like the Merrell brand of shoes in general and own a pair of their ankle supporting hiking shoes. I was looking for a low profile, relatively light weight walking shoe for use during a walking trip this summer. These are perfect! Comfortable right out of the box. Actually lighter weight than I expected. I have a bunion on one foot and the width is great, no pressure spots. The tread is good without being “rock climbing” material. One extra benefit is that the arch support tends to very slightly push my foot outward so that there is less tendency to walk toward the inside of my ankles. My feet feeling like they are flat on the surface. Highly recommend.

Perfect for Alaska Cruise
So comfortable and kept my feet warm and dry recently in rainy Alaska. I’m not a hiker, but i walked over 10,000 steps sightseeing each port. I like that they were wider and I could wear wool socks. The bottoms are well designed which kept me from slipping. Not a huge amount of arch support which I prefer.

The shoe was too wide and didn’t fit right in the toe area. I’m not sure it was designed like this or if it was just the wrong size for me. The sole looked very good and sturdy. I didn’t care for the overall clunkiness look if it.It would be a great shoe if you like room at the toes!I’ve returned and ordered a different shoe.
