Fits my big head but not sure it’s waterproof
I took the hat on it’s maiden voyage for my recent disneyworld trip. With some storms in the forecast, I didn’t want to be caught without something that was waterproof.When i got the hat, the tag on it didn’t say waterproof. it said something like highly water resistant. That made me wonder if the advertising was incorrect.I really got to test the hat out on the last day of my trip when a storm did indeed roll in and dropped a ton of rain on us. I was out in it for half a day (the forecast called for 2.5 inches of rain through the day so not a small amount). I was wearing a golf rain jacket and goretex pants and shoes. Those articles of clothing kept me dry the entire time. The hat, well let’s talk about that.Over the course of the day, I would often take off the hat and flip the rain off of it. I guess I was a little surprised to see what looked as though the hat was absorbing some of the water. It still flicked a lot of rain off but it wasn’t like the jacket where I could see the rain beading on there and all I had to do was flick it and the rain would come flying off. The hat had some beading but it looked like it was also absorbing. I will say though that in the 7 or so hours out in the rain, I did not get wet from rain soaking through the hat.My guess is the hat is as the tag advertised, highly water resistant but I don’t think it’s waterproof as this listing says. When I packed the hat away, it was not saturated with water. In fact, it barely had any extra weight from water. That’s a good thing. On a trip earlier in the year, I got caught in one of those atmostpheric rivers that hit LA and the jacket I had wasn’t waterproof. It was just water resistant. Eventually, it took on a lot of water and the jacket weighed 2-3 times its normal weight when I took it off. So in comparision, this hat did do its job.I have a big head. I usually can’t fit any off the shelf hat, even the adjustable ones. I could go through the entire rack and find nothing that fits even on the largest hole. But this hat easily fit my big head and I really like that. It was comfortable to wear because of that. It didn’t squish my head which often times leads to a headache for me.The hat was good enough at keeping me dry that I would consider buying another and only the listing here stating that it’s waterproof when it’s not really led me to drop 1 star. But it’s still quite good. I would suggest getting one if you need some sort of head gear to keep you dry. This should do the job. If you are in a storm for the entire day, i think that amount of water will eventually get through the hat but most breathable waterproof garments will eventually be defeated.
