NOT AS PICTURED, but might work out better for me as sharpening is easier
This is a nice sturdy forged drawknife with a slight convex edge in two directions. The cutting edge is slightly convex (further out in the middle) and the blade is slightly convex (can rock on the back slightly when on a flat surface. This configuration suits me fine and the knife works very well for me.Mine has handles that screw onto the forged blade rather than the tangs that bend off the blade and go through the handles. So that’s a miss because what I received was not what was pictured. However I think it might actually suit me better because it makes the blade easier to sharpen by making the handles easy to remove and replace. Handles being in the way are a lot of what makes these challenging to sharpen. The handles are aligned with the blade (their axis is parallel to blade back). Again, this works fine for me because it’s a good compromise when using the knife both bevel up and bevel down as I do.The forging is excellent, Teutonic manufacturing ethics are clearly apparent. The back cleaned up nicely on a 1000 grit stone because the grinding marks were fine. Polished up on a 6000 grit waterstone the edge takes a mirror finish and holds an extremely sharp edge much better than I would have expected. A polished edge leaves a very smooth, glistening surface on dry wood and is very satisfactory indeed. It cuts green wood like butter and is fully satisfactory on that count as well.Comes with a plastic slip-on edge guard that’s worth keeping track of until you can sort out a sheath of some sort. Otherwise it’s going to be dangerous to keep in a drawer or bag, risking cuts to yourself and other items as well as risking edge damage.Overall, excellent and an excellent value at the $43 I paid for it, I would definitely do it again and recommend. Definitely a much better option than the somewhat less expensive Chinese versions you see available next to it here on Amazon for maybe 3/4 the price. Those are just disappointment waiting to happen.

Good, quality product
We purchased this skinner to peel the pine bark off of red pine logs that weâre milling into D logs for a small cabin structure and it works great. The size is just right, the blade is sharp and it is easy to use. It is not too heavy and the handles feel comfortable. We are happy with this purchase.

Good quality for price
Arrived sharp and ready to work. Have debarked over a dozen logs with it so far and it’s still as sharp. It cuts easy and strips bark as it should. Good quality product

Hair shaving sharp out of the box
Purchased this draw knife for debarking mantles we mill for live edges. Knife way sharper than I expected super great for hewing timber! Itâs Saturday and well made and I like the fact that itâs fastened on with a nut and bolt as opposed to welded this makes the blade replaceable and handles able to be put on a different blade. Also allows the blade to be removed from handles and put into a vice for sharpening.Came with a âmade in Austriaâ stamp and with company name on blade unlike some reviews I read. Very happy with the product and used it today.

Need to debark a slab? This is for you.
I had a few slabs I needed to debark, and tried to use my grinder with a paint removal wheel. It worked, but generated a TON of dust and created a mess in the shop. I picked this up and it made quick work of the heavy outer bark and the inner bark. It also left a nice smooth finish due to the high quality steel they used. I appreciate the quality of the tool, and this will definitely outlast me and confuse my kids when they clean out the shop after I’m gone!

Well designed and well crafted – really nice!
I have another draw knife that I have used in the past. It is much heavier and didn’t come sharp enough to do a decent job. Knowing I had a lot of tree branches to process into handrails for our trails in the woods, I decided to see if a better tool would be worth the investment. One of my bosses when I was an apprentice always said, “If you need a tool and don’t buy it, you’re going to pay for it anyway and you still won’t have the tool you need.” I’m glad I listened to his wisdom by buying this draw knife. It has already saved me hours of work since it is so effective and much lighter being made of high grade steel. You won’t regret paying a little more for this quality of tool.

Very well made
It is a very nice draw knife. Well made, fairly sharp, should last for years. Packing not so good when shipped.

Quality steel
I used this draw knife to de-bark and carve out a bow from an Osage Orange quarter log. For those unfamiliar with Osage, this is a wood that is hard enough to blunt a common hardware store chisel (I mean this quite literally). The Stubai knife held a reasonable edge through the whole process and accepted a fresh edge readily. The knife came sharp â not shaving sharp, as some people like their draw knives, but sharp enough. The handles are solid and comfortable. Well worth the price!

I used it to shave down an eight foot plank of macassar ebony. Worked beautifully. Lovely traditional draw knife.

The handles are just bolted on. The item is not the same as it is advertised. It was supposed to be one solid piece. Again. Not as advertised
