Perfect combination I canât understand why everyone supplier is not doing this. I have another Tapó (one step up from this one) camera that came with solar panel as a combo purchase. I like that camera but convenience always wins. If you do the math on the resolution you will see thatâs itâs 2k, not 1080p – upgrade, ha. I will definitely be getting more of these to replace my other ânameâ brand cameras. Hopefully they wonât discontinue are stop offering these.
Good image, easy to set up The images look good and the camera was pretty easy to set up and configure. Once you have it charged and download the app, it steps you through everything. It also links to Alexa with an automated skill push right from the Tapo app on your phone (note, it takes a little while for everything to sync up in your household. When I first linked it, my phone’s Alexa app could see the camera and real-time video, but my echo show would only see a still. Several hours later, it started working fine on the Echo.)It was also easy to have another house-hold member create a TP-Link ID and download the app and share the camera. Secondary users can view the camera, get notices, and use the intercom features, but can’t change any settings.I’m not giving 5 stars, however, due to a couple of things:1. If you use the mounting point on the side of the camera, like you would normally set up a desktop or ceiling mount, the image may be upside down. All the online documentation and FAQs tell you go go into the settings and select “invert image”. However, the current app doesn’t have that setting. With this camera you can’t mount it upside down. If you do a ceiling mount, you have to use the mounting hole on the back of the camera and have it cantilever out. In my past experience, the stress on the mount will cause it to gradually droop and need to be repositioned.2. You can’t set it up without either buying the Tapo Care subscription or starting a free trial. You can’t start with the features that are free to see how everything works without the subscription. It’s not super-clear how many of the features will stop working once the free trial is over. By that time, you may be past your ability to return it if you’re unable to do what you need. Right now, I’m able to view the camera remotely. I’m not sure if that will work without a subscription. Other cloud features, like 30-day history and smart notifications will definitely stop. I’d like to be able to evaluate the camera and app and their abilities with the all-free features first and then start the trial to see what abilities get added.
Perfect camera for remote locations This camera can be put up anywhere and accessed as long as it has wifi access. The video quality is good. It’s only 1080p but it’s a completely wireless camera that can go 180 days in between charges so I think that’s a good compromise. I’ve used this a couple times as a baby monitor and it works really well. Connectivity was easy to setup. Definitely recommended for anywhere you don’t have access to constant power source.
Excellent security camera for the price Tapo security cameras are becoming my favorite as they offer good value and don’t cripple the functionality too much even without the Tapo subscription.I also find Tapo cameras to have better motion detection than many smaller brands, although some larger brands such as Nest still perform better. This particular unit is great because it advertises 180 days of battery life. I haven’t tested it that long but it’s running for many days without issues. The long battery life allows this unit to be used with just occasional charging and it’s great for remote places. One thing to note is that this unit is significantly longer than other Tapo cameras. As the camera sticks out more, you need to ensure the base is mounted securely to get this cable installed.

Recomendable
