works well if you pin it
As other reviews note, the adhesive on this is light (which in my opinion is a good thing — if it were terribly heavy, it would leave a mark on the upholstery when removed. The whole idea is to protect the upholstery). It might stick tightly to vinyl or leather, but not to fabric. But, the adhesive is helpful in holding the mat down while you pin it securely to the furniture. First, I cut a piece to generously cover the claw marks, and rounded the edges — good fabric shears are sufficient to cut it. I first tried upholstery screw tacks — this material is too tough to make those practical, so I got t-pins that I placed pointing in different directions to secure them better. I put one every couple of inches or so, with extras down the middle where the mat curves around the frame. You could probably also use safety or quilt pins, though they would be more obtrusive. Voila — it stays put, despite my cat’s best efforts. The gray color actually goes with the chair color, so it is not too unattractive. There is a generous amount on the roll, enough for a couple of pieces of furniture.

Beware!
Worst product ever. Peeled right off the couch on its own. Cat got stuck in the sticky side of the product.
Waste of money since I used the whole roll and cannot return it.
Horrible

Easy to cut and place.
We needed a new couch and replaced our leather one with cloth, thinking that it would be harder to leave so many marks this way. Oops. This works well, the cats don’t seem to like it much so they don’t scratch it though it is make so that it can be. I recommend attaching it with something more sturdy for high movement of use spots, such as where your shins hit. And it’s a little scratchy for my tastes. But it does what we need!

My kitty loves it keeps her off the furniture
Love it that I can choose the size to cut…it does not look bad…the problem is the backing. Kind of hard to peel off..all in all I love it

Awesome
I love this product. I use it on my couch arms to prevent it from getting ruined because my cat loves to scratchâ¦.

Used to reupholster my cats’ cat condo.
The cats have a couple of cat trees they love to spend time in. One of the cats spends a lot of time there & she vigorously sharpened her claws several times a day. Her favorite parts for sharpening are the upright posts, which are covered with shaggy rug pieces. She absolutely shreds them. Every time I walk into the room, there are piles of pieces of carpet yarn on the floor. After a few years of this, there are some pretty big bald spots on the posts. When I saw this I thought it might be good for reupholstering the posts. Since the rest of the condo is perfectly fine, I didn’t want to replace it. at condos are expensive.
I removed all of the carpet from the upright posts, which was fairly easy. Then I cute a piece of this to length. It just so happens that the width is the perfect size to go around the pole & cover all four sides. It stuck okay, but I thought there might be a chance of it peeling off, especially with super cat clawing at it. So, as I applied it I stapled it in place with a staple gun. It went on pretty easily. I cut out the areas where perches & beds were attached, using a razor knife.
I’ll tell you, it looks so much better now. I sprayed it with some Kong catnip spray & the cat started using it right away. I’m hoping it will hold up better than the original carpet. So far, so good.
The regular price for this is about $24, which I think is reasonable, considering you get about 6 1/2 feet of this. It’s currently on sale for about $20, which I believe is a real bargain price. The other two cats prefer sharpening their claws on horizontal surfaces, so I’ll be using the remaining piece on a small inclined board for them. I would not use it on the side of my furniture for the cats to sharper their claws because I don’t want them sharpening their claws on the furniture. I think using it on the furniture would tend to encourage that behavior. In my opinion, this is a fantastic option for recovering large & small cat condos & perches. It’s also good it you making or recovering scratchers that are horizontal & smaller scratching posts.

Peels off
Just doesnât work. Either peels of both layers from the furniture fabric or the layers just split apart. I got both situations in one try. Waste of money. The idea was good though if it worked.
