A great resource for beginner guitarists!
I recently picked up the guitar again after a years-long hiatus. It was like picking it up for the first time; it’s definitely not like riding a bike! My main struggle was being usure how to practice consistently and efficiently. This book has helped immensely. From day 1 I could tell that it would be an indispensable tool in my journey to rediscover the guitar. I particularly enjoyed the routine it helps you build and the way it slowly increases the difficulty of the exercises using what you’ve learned while practicing the previous.Pro tip (even though I’m not a pro by any measure): Repetition is key. Read the instructions carefully and make sure you understand what’s being asked of you before you begin. Then repeat each exercise until you’ve locked in the patterns and finger placement into muscle memory. Think about the way many pros can play the most complex riffs and licks without looking at their instrument. This is the way they do it. It’s a skill, not a talent! One that you can develop by using this book.Highly recommended; you will not be disappointed!

Actually encourages me to play!
I have been “playing” guitar, (if that’s what you call it), since I was 10 y.o., one of these that played a few chords and strum, then didn’t touch guitar for years, then play again for a month, not for a few years again. Why? because I sucked at it! Now in my mid-fifties I picked it up again, and actually started learning things and ENJOYED playing, looked forward to it, actually started sounding like I knew what I was doing, played every day! Difference? THIS BOOK. Oh, how I wish I would have had this years ago! I can not recommend it enough. The “10 minutes a day” practice quote is quite optimistic, but it got me to pick up the guitar and play and believe me, there is no way you are only going to play for 10 minutes. You’ll WANT to keep playing and learning… because your actually getting it and understanding thing’s. Great book for beginners and those who have played a bit but needed help….The book explains guitar tablature and how to use it, easily. YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW OR LEARN HOW TO READ MUSIC! Teaches you exercises to practice, has bonuses to download, also has audio files you can download and play so you know how it’s suppose to sound. That way you’ll know if your playing it correctly. And just so much more, too much to describe and go over. Do yourself a favor and get this book, you will not regret it! Thank you guitar head!!

maybe itâs better in print
Thereâs a lot to learn. But I found it difficult on the kindle edition.Maybe itâs because I am 68 years old?

Clear and easy to understand
As an adult learner with little time, I appreciate the short, clear instructions. Now to find the time to practice more! No book can help with that.

For those on a chromebook.
I tried to use the book in the Kindle Cloud Reader but the images of the tablature were too small to read and the Cloud Reader on Chromebook won’t allow you to zoom in. If you find yourself in the same predicament download the Kindle mobile app and install it. Once you open the book in the app if you double click on the embedded image it will zoom in enough to render it legible. The content of the book is good. I purchased it for the structure. I’ve been playing forever and like most guitar players I don’t practice properly I just play and have fun with it. As a result playing has been getting progressively sloppier. wanted something to provide structure and direction. The exercises in the book are nothing new but having them mapped out in ten minute chunks will keep you on a path and make sure that some of your practice time will actually improve your physical facility as a player. If you are looking for something to get you on the path to playing with more control and dexterity without an overwhelming time commitment this book is a good place to start.

I am going for guitar lessons for a few months and was not very happy with my progress. I know to play a few chords and that was basically it. This book is very well structured. I practice every day for half hour and it is well illustrated and explained very well. I was very happy with my progress to play a few simple songs including âAmazing graceâ my favourite and a few others. I am now at chord progression and loving it. Nowadays I take my book to my guitar instructor at Long and McQuade and ask him to explain or demonstrate if I have any questions.I strongly recommend this book for beginners and I will buy more books from Guitar head once I complete this one.

Had an on-again, off-again (more off than on) relationship with the guitar for the past 20+ years. Love the guitar and watching people playing it but that love would turn into fristration and borderline hatred when trying to learn myself. No getting around it, it is one of (if not) the most maximum effort/mininal return musical instruments ever.Got a cheap guitar off gumtree when found out we (in the UK) were going into another lockdown. Started following a couple of online courses but never felt like i was getting anywhere, so the guitar was sitting in the stand more than in my hands. As i started reading more and more posts within guitar communities i saw the name Guitar Head pop up with people singing the praises of the books. Took a punk on this book and, all I can say is WOW! The way it is written is so easy to understand and follow without being patronising, it actually makes it fun to follow. Have spent the best part of a week just picking the guitar up for half hour here and there and it feels like i have made more progress in that short space of time than the weeks spent trying to follow some online courses. It had got me to the stage where a lot of the things you see and hear while going through online lessons to be easier to understand and follow, it now like the progress is improving exponentially (I dont mean i’ll be playing Voodoo Child with me eyes closed in a month), I just mean little things like scales that, a month ago i thought i would never get to play, and now, thanks to following the exercises in this book, i can actually play. If you are a beginner and decide to get this book, just take your sweet time and don’t move onto the next exercise until you have pretty much mastered the current one.Sorry for the long winded review but yes, this book is totally worth it. Am going to buy the other beginner book now, and look forward to buying the more advanced ones once I have these ones sussed.
