We bought these products about 5 weeks ago for each of our two central Rheem A/C/ units. We had discovered that our backup solar, battery or generator power could not always start up the ‘ac units depeneding on what other loads were on-line. There would be a loud start up “thunk” and then the AC would shut down. I was thinking I might need a professional to install these, but actually the SoftStartHomes were easy to install following the accompanying instructions, maybe 20 minutes to install each one. I have an app that I can view the KW usage as the AC unit kicks in, and indeed it starts out low and over 15 seconds builds up to its full KW usage. No more failed starts.

Didn’t work on my Lennox AC unit.
Didn’t work for my 5 ton lennox ac unit. After hours of calls with the company and trouble shooting we’ve had no luck.It’s also past the return window so now I just have a 400 dollar plastic paper weight with wires.

A little bit like snake oil.
Showed this to the master electrician doing a 200 amp upgrade at my greenhouse and asked hin what he thought.His exact words were “You didn’t fall for that, did you”? “Every one of your generatore is between 7KW and 15KW – and you have NO use for this”. “This is for people with small generators trying to start appliances like air conditioners that have a start up demand greater than your generator (natural gas/propane/gasoline powered) can supply”.After doing some research – he’s absolutely right. This might come in handy when you are trying to start an air conditioner in your RV or home and your generator is only capable of 2KW. That’s about the extent of it.This unit only supports a 6 tom AC unit (72K BTU)? The AC in my house is a 10 Ton unit (120K BTU). This is useless for me. To be fair, this company does make bigger ones than this but boy are they expensive and the return on your investment is practically nonexistant.If the main power is on you have no need for this. If your generator (natural gas/propane/gasoline powered) is capable of powering the whole house, you have no need for this.There are absolutely NO instructions that come with this. You have to go to their web site and choose which air conditioner you have from a relatively short list to get directions.All said and done, this will only serve a purpose for very the few people that made the mistake of buying a tiny generator and expecting it to do big generator things. I find the description to be very misleadingI am being very generous giving this a 3 star rating.

I called the tech support number and the electrician that answered literally walked me through the entire install. It couldn’t have been any easier.
