Nice chair, comfy and solid. Takes a minute to assemble. I’m going to start at the end: what’s the assembled chair like? I’m going to compare it with a genuine Herman Miller Aeron, to which it’s pretty similar, though about $500 less. The biggest difference is that the seat is comfy foam, rather than mesh. I actually find this chair a little more comfortable, though after about 10 minutes, it’s warmer. They both have a mesh back that can recline or lock upright, with a tension adjustment for how hard you need to rock back to make it recline. The adjustment on this chair is further back, so harder to reach. But when I had an Aeron, I adjusted it the first day and didn’t touch it again for 4 years, so I don’t consider that so important. Both chairs have 5 wheels, and a wide enough base to feel secure even when reclining. There is a lumbar support, which slides up and down, with detents so it will stay where you put it. It provides subtle support, and really adds to my comfort, though the Aeron has just the perfect amount of flex in the back. Unlike the Aeron, the armrests on this chair have adjustable height, though their padding is more firm (I call this one a tie). This chair has a separate headrest (which my Aeron lacked), which also has detents so you can adjust it to the height you like, and it stays there. The headrest support is quite flexible, which took a half minute to get used to, and enhances my comfort; I think I could nap in this chair. If you don’t like the headrest, it can be removed with 2 screws, and the chair looks fine without it. Overall, I think I like it very nearly as much as the Aeron, which sells for anywhere from $600 – $1800 (!). Actually, this chair is probably most similar to the WeWork chair, even down to the firm armrest padding, though the WeWork chair, like the Aeron, lacks a headrest and adjustment on the lumbar support. I would furnish an office with these, and I don’t think anyone would think I was being cheap. I might not put the headrests on the chairs, if I were worried about people sleeping on the job. Now, starting at the beginning, first impression: it comes in a fairly compact (11″Dx25″Wx23″H), fairly heavy (~35 lbs) box of heavyweight cardboard.Unboxing: all the pieces are individually packaged, mostly in bubble wrap bags, so I was not surprised they were all in perfect condition. Overall, it took almost 10 minutes to open the box, remove and unwrap all the pieces and get everything ready to assemble.Assembly: it was straightforward, though I’m an experienced furniture assembler. Going slowly and methodically (usually the fastest way to go) it took about 45 minutes. The instructions were good. I expect the 2nd one would take me closer to 20 minutes. The pieces fit together well, though it takes some strength to press the wheel assemblies into the base, similar to most office-style chairs. Also, it took some force to get the bracket cover into position; it was about a millimeter too long on one side, but it’s plastic (as far as I could tell, it’s the only plastic piece, and it’s purely cosmetic), so it did press into position and looked good after. They provide an extra one for 3 of the 4 types of bolts, and also the 2 allen wrenches needed (the larger one is only needed for one type of screw). There is also a pair of cotton gloves provided, in case your hands are dirty and you want to keep the chair clean. (!) All the bolt receivers were set in well, so I could screw them in very tightly without worrying; this contributes to the quite solid feel of the finished product.Helpful hints: when attaching anything, put the first bolt in only a little, to make it easier to see to start the others. Screw them all in loosely, then position it, then tighten. The bolts are labeled a, b, c and d in the package and in the instructions, but it’s hard to see after you open the bolt packaging. I suggest marking a sheet of paper A, B, C & D and putting a little pile of screws by each letter. Finally, you’ll want something taller than the chair’s back and narrow enough to fit between the arms to make it easy to flip it to attach the arms and back: I suggest a 2-layer package of paper towels if you don’t have a suitable small table. I used a 4-layer package of toilet paper, with the box that the small parts come in on top of it.TL;DR: really a nice chair, very solid, compares favorably to ones selling for twice the price in stores, and very nearly as comfortable as ones costing more than 4x the price, and seems to be made of durable materials (just keep sharp things away). But allow an hour to unbox and assemble the 1st one, and a half hour for the second.
Pretty comfortable This chair is surprisingly comfortable. I usually donât sit long when working at a desk, but Iâm looking at a lengthy recovery time from surgery and will need a work-from-home chair since Iâll be sitting more. A lot of office chairs (ergonomic or not) are too big for me and end up uncomfortable after a couple hours. I am 5â 3â with a long torso and short lower body, so most office chairs are both too tall and the seat is too deep. This chair has a back that adjusts forward to make the seat depth shallower so the backs of my knees can comfortably rest where they should. I still canât rest my feet flat on the floor with this chair in the lowest position, so I just rest them on the legs.I tried this chair out for the first time while doing my taxes, which is a several-hours-long process. While the padding on this chair isnât super thick, the seat was still quite comfortable for the hours I sat there. I appreciated the ergo back and head rest during those hours, too. Once my recovery is over, I plan to use this in my craft room where I regularly sit for hours working on projects.
