The ease of use I’ve been looking for The simplicity of this SmallRig device is a sight for sore eyes – it’s compact and practical. Squeezing the two posts together to open this holder couldn’t be easier and requires only one hand. I was so tired of wrestling with holders that required me to use both hands – one to pull one side open and the other to jam my phone in and essentially use it as a pry bar to wedge the thing open. I have a magnetic finger grip / stand mounted on the back of my S24 Ultra phone case (by OhSnap) so it adds thickness. Some other phone clamps can’t accommodate that added thickness, but this one fits perfectly even with that in place. SmallRig makes great gear, and because it’s made of such solid plastic I have no worries about it breaking or falling apart. A nice device.
Smallrig make excellent products, and this unique design is another one I am fascinated by people who are able to take a good design and make it better. SmallRig have taken a simple product like a cell phone holder, and designed one that is without question a superior product. The design of this mount is simple enough, and that’s what makes it so unique. Most cell phone holders I have used, involve holding the spring loaded jaws open with one hand, and slipping the phone in and releasing. That usually works but it is often just an accident waiting to happen. What SmallRig have done is to design a holder that can be opened with one hand, by pinching together the movable jaw holder and the immobile holder that is the same size, and the jaws open with ease. This is a very clever and functional design, and it’s worth removing your other phone holders on your tripods or selfie sticks and replacing them with this holder – really – and it’s very inexpensive. The holder is equipped with an embedded 1/4 20 attach point so you can attach to your tripod or ball head (SmallRig make excellent mini ball heads). It is also designed with detente stops so your holder won’t spin around on its own. It is also typical of SmallRig that they won’t leave a space empty if they can put something functional there, and that’s what they have done. It has a cold shoe mount on one side of the holder in case you want to mount a light or microphone. This is an excellent phone attachment/tripod holder/selfie stick holder, well made and very functional – I recommend it
A great new way to mount your phone I just love SmallRig and this mount is a great example of how they think outside the box and offer an entirely different way to mount your phone. Unlike most mounts, where you need to pull open some sort of spring loaded clamp, they created a design where you squeeze two pins on the side and it opens the clamp. So you can squeeze it open with one hand and simply place your phone inside and let go. I like that.
Nice functionality, plastic build. Loading a phone into this holder is made simple with the pinch clamp mechanism. It also has 2 cold shoe mounts and can rotate from landscape to portrait orientation with ease. The downside is that this budget phone tripod mount is made mostly out of plastic. It has a metal insert for the 1/4″ mount at the bottom, but it doesnât look sturdy. However, I think the functionality of this phone mount is good, and seems like a good value, but the build quality is lower than expected.
Easy to use & secure SmallRig makes quality products. This phone tripod mount is no exception. This mount has several useful and well thought out features. 1. To open the jaws, you just squeeze the finger tabs on the side. No more prying the jaws apart with your fingers while trying to get your phone in or out of there at the same time. What used to be a very clumsy maneuver is now much easier and safer. Less risk of dropping your phone while mounting or dismounting it. 2. The jaws have rubber bumpers on the top, bottom and back. The phone is very unlikely to slip. The top and bottom bumpers also have a lip to help keep the phone from slipping out. 3. The jaws rotate 360 degrees with detents at each 90 degree position. This is super useful for getting perfect portrait or landscape orientations assuming your tripod is level to begin with. 4. The ¼ x 20 screw socket is made of metal, not plastic. 5. There are two cold shoes, one on each jaw. This is very handy for mounting other accessories like LED light panels, microphones, action cameras, etc. It is made of plastic (other than the standard screw socket) so it is not indestructible. However, it is fairly sturdy for being plastic. With care, this phone holder should last a long time. My S24, being a smaller phone, fits securely in the holder. Recommended.
Sturdy, portable, and convenient Great little phone rig! Just the right size to do the job and also slip into a bag for easy travel. The pinch-to-spread feature works great and is a lot more convenient than other rigs that necessarily put your fingers in the way of your phone as you’re trying to load it. It’s plastic, but feels really sturdy and well-made. The trade-off for weight is worth it, in my opinion and use-case.

This part is crazy well engineered, and built!
I attach it to my (affordable), metallic Magic arm.
