Well made, BUT…
The material seems decent quality, thick yet breathable etc – there are no visible issues with the stitching or anything of that nature. The basic construction here is good. BUT, the sizing… leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion. Based off their sizing chart, a Large should’ve fit me perfectly, if not being a bit snug (my measurements are 40-30-42), but when I put it on… no dice, it’s huge! The whole garment practically hangs off me, with the arm holes coming down to my waist and showing off my bra lol. It’s a shame, I really wish it had fit! I’m lucky enough to have seamstresses in my family who will do me a solid and alter it to fit, but I wish the sizing chart had simply been reliable. If you’re like me and fall between two sizes (my waist says medium but my bust says large), I recommend ordering the lower size. A medium likely would’ve fit me much better, despite the sizing chart indicating it would be too small.

I deal with chronic health and pain issues. In the past couple years, I’ve discovered that the right kind of dress can be the easiest thing for me to wear. My favorite dresses are comfortable, can be easily dressed up or down, are made of fabric that breathes well, and are easy to put on.
I started with “nap” dresses, as comfortable as jammies, but looking so much nicer. When it hurts to breathe and move, comfortable clothes really can make a difference in the day. But so can looking nice. Once I discovered the nap dress could pop over my head in about two seconds and looked great, I moved on and tried other kinds of dresses.
The spring I’ve been wearing tennis dresses a lot. Short and stretchy, these two piece sets (with matching shorts) are made for activity. There are days I can’t even think about tennis, but on the days I’m active, these dresses are stretchy and super comfortable. And with a short cotton sweater popped on top, I can wear a tennis or workout dress most places. Great for picking up my kid at school, for grocery shopping or errands.
I love the brand name—Soothfeel. There is something soothing or comfortable about this dress. The two piece construction—dress and matching shorts—is easy to wear for any level of activity, from sports to a nap.
This dress is nicely cut and figure flattering. The material, a polyester/elastane blend, is stretchy, it skims the figure instead of clinging. The dress is cut on almost a modified princess line, the seams curve in under the bust, the gently out again as they come near the hips. This makes the waist look smaller.
I can be tricky to fit in a dress. I’m an hourglass figure, curvier on top. I wear a 6 in jeans, a M in a stretchy tee, but I need to size up in a button-down shirt to a L. I’m short, about 5’2 1/2”, maybe a bit less.
Finding the right size dress for me can be difficult. Sometimes I need a M, sometimes a L. I’ve worn S, and I’ve worn XL. My bra band size is a 32 or 34, depending on brand. Looking at the size chart, an XL had a bust measurement of 38-40, which sounded right for me. I’m slim through the torso, but top heavy.
So I got the XL. It’s quite a bit larger than I expected. It’s actually several inches too large in the bust. That being said, the extra room helps the dress to skim over my curves instead of clinging to them. I don’t like to draw attention to my bustline, a tight top does that. This fit loosely over the bosom, waist, and hips.
I knew the shorts would be too large, that’s okay. My concern was whether this would be large enough up top. It was an easy job to just slit the inside of the waistband and pull the elastic out, then take a few stitches to shorten the elastic. Now the shorts are comfortably loose, but not so loose I’m afraid they’ll fall to my ankles while I’m walking.
Family legend says that actually happened to my mom when she was a teenager. She was walking home from high school and the elastic split on the her panties, which fell down around her ankles. Her sisters claim she stepped out of them and just kept walking, when cute guy asked about the panties, she just shrugged and said, “I don’t know. They’re not mine.”
Funny as the story is, I would shrivel up from embarrassment if that happened to me, so I’m glad it was so easy to take the waist in quickly. The shorts are baggy, more like a soccer short and less like a bike short. But they look cute under the dress. The pockets are great, they hold a tennis ball. They can also hold your iPhone. I use a pocket to hold my insulin pump and CGM, I’m a type 1 diabetic.
The dress is nicely styled, the curved, princess-style seams are flattering to a wide variety of women’s figures. I’m a curvy girl, and I can say this looked great on me. The black and white houndstooth pattern is timeless and chic. The zipper at the neckline lets me control how high or low I want the collar to be.
Since I sized up, the skirt hits me maybe two or three inches above the knee. I’m also quite short. The sales photo shows the skirt at upper thigh level on the model, on a taller woman the skirt length would vary from my skirt length.
I love on makeover shows when the expert takes a basic dress and by changing some accessories, makes it look like half a dozen or ten totally different outfits. This little tennis dress has that same capability.
Of course it’s a tennis (or golf, or workout) dress, so it looks great as is with just a pair of sneakers. You can dress it up with heels and a cardigan or jacket. You can add jewelry, even heels if you want this to look fancier.
You can also kick back and relax with this dress. Accessorize with sneaker mules, or slides, or flip flops, Toms, or Crocs. Add a hoodie, or slide an oversized tee over the top of the dress. Go for a slouchy, long cardigan.
The options are endless. This is a great dress for me. I’m limited in my mobility and energy, so this dress makes my morning easy. It only takes a few seconds to throw the dress over my head, and then add the shorts.
I can wear this on days when I feel active, when I want more activity, want to play tennis or do yoga or do spring cleaning. I can also wear it for a day of work at my desk, where I write fairy tale fantasy novels under different pen names. This is comfortable for an active day, or an active morning, a quick nap, and an inactive afternoon.
I’m thinking about buying another one of these, I like the black with white trim, also the pink, and I think the classic white is really chic, though it would stay white for about two and a half seconds in NYC where I live.
