Time to replace my old UMIDIGI A9 Pro  I purchased this phone to replace my old UMIDIGI A9 Pro. Compared to the A9, this phone has a slightly larger screen and a longer battery life. It came nicely packaged like the A9 but with an US charger instead of an European. Camera is 50Mpx compared to 48Mpx. Storage is 128GB storage instead of 64GB. Video streaming was very smooth, sound quality was decent, and comes with the latest Android 13. What I didn’t like about the phone was the FM radio feature, it was barely functional but I don’t listen to the radio on my phones. I wished it came with a 3.5mm headphone jack like the A9, inconvenient if you use a wired headphone and needs to charge at the same time.
Value for Money! Not going to lie, for the price of this phone this is a great deal. Not just for the specs alone but the build itself makes this quite a deal. It’s water proof and rugged. Hubby can have this on the job and worry less for sure. It’s got built in bumpers. The glass is shatterproof and if he drops it in puddle… or whatever other crazy thing that can happen that probably will happen… this phone will make it through. Hubby needs to take detailed pics on the job, of blueprints, parts and materials, updates and etc. This phone is guaranteed to capture all of the details and with the amount of storage available he can hang on to whatever he needs to for however long he needs. Plus there’s plenty of space for personal items too. The battery life is great! We both do not charge our phones unless we need to anyway, but this phone has went 3 days so far and is just now needing charging. That’s with his video watching too. The battery is great. Hubby is really good about closing down apps and shutting pages down once done. That saves on the data and speed usage. Those who aren’t used to doing so may experience lag if you’ve got numerous apps or tabs running at once. In my opinion, however that is to be expected with a more affordable phone. All of the other specs really make this a good deal! The reception is great. Clear calls. No drops so far. Just overall a great phone at a great price!
Can’t be there for the money Let’s face it, you don’t get much in way of a smartphone in this price range. 8 gigs of RAM is insane for a budget phone. I’m not what you would call a power user, I’m not a gamer, I’m just a normal person who uses my phone for calls and texts and a little bit of internet browsing here and there. The display is nice, on par with my older Motorola Moto G. It’s taking me a little bit getting used to the layout and where everything’s located within the phones software, as the Motorola phones I’m used to are almost stock Android. Call Quality is good, the speaker’s fine, the phone is snappy, quicker than my older Motorola I believe. I haven’t really gotten any stutters or hang ups to speak of. Quality seems very good, the phone feels Rock solid in the hand. Camera is fine, I’m not a huge picture taker, but it seems to take very nice pictures and video. I can’t really speak to battery life other than saying I plug my phones in every night so battery life has never been an issue for me. That being said it seems at least on par with my Moto g, it gets me through the day and I usually have at least 80% left at the end of the day, sometimes more. I’m using this with a Verizon sim, I can’t speak to other carriers compatibility. Overall this is a really good phone for the price in my opinion.
Really Rugged Phone, Good Specs The very first thing I noticed that makes this phone stands out from other phones, even premium phones, is its ruggedness. Most phone users have their phones protected with a case. For those who are adventurous, or hate added bulk that cases add to the phone, so you get something like this. Basically, it’s a phone with a built-in case, plus the extra seals and protection from water, sand, and dust. The other noticeable things are the good specs: 8GB of RAM, plus another 8GB of “soft” RAM, or virtual RAM, 128GB of memory, and a very generous and rare 6,000mAh battery, which allows this phone to easily last you through the day. However, and this is where you have to cut costs to make the phone only $170, is the very slow CPU/processor. If you do simple tasks, or use one app at a time without switching to other apps, then it’s fine. However, as you use more and more apps throughout the day, the phone starts to lag because the slow processor can’t keep up. So to be perfectly honest with you, I do not recommend this as your main phone. What this is ideal for, is a secondary phone, especially if you do a lot of traveling. As a secondary or emergency phone, it would last you all day, and if you just use it to make calls, send texts, use a texting app, etc. then it’s perfectly fine. So at a $170, especially if you’re going on an extended overseas trip, this phone would be a great complement to say your iPhone or Samsung Galaxy.
Ruggedness and Performance at a Great Price This UMIDIGI G5 Mecha rugged smartphone is a fantastic option for anyone needing a durable and capable device without breaking the bank. The rugged design, with its IP68/IP69K waterproof and dustproof rating, gives me confidence that it can handle tough environments and accidental drops. The phone boasts impressive specs for the price, including a generous amount of RAM and storage (expandable up to 1TB!), a large 6.6-inch screen, and a long-lasting 6000mAh battery. The Android 13 operating system ensures a smooth and up-to-date user experience. If you’re looking for a phone that’s built to last and doesn’t skimp on features, the UMIDIGI G5 Mecha is definitely worth considering.
I have always been a fan of smartphone manufacturers working on bringing top notch features at an affordable price. Smartphones are getting better, faster, smoother and more fluid, and with batteries lasting up to 2 days. This is not a knock off. Umidigi has been making phones for some time. For the price, this phone is hard to beat and has features that normal users will love. Here is a general list of the important specs on this unlocked phone: 1- Dual SIM and Comes with second latest official release of Android 13. 2- Octa-Core Processor. 3- 6.56 Inch HD display. (1612 X 720) 4- 8GB of running RAM. 5- 128GB of storage. 6- 6000 mAh battery. 7- 50MP Camera / 8MP Selfie camera on front. 8- Fingerprint Sensor. 9- RUGGED build to resist water, dust, and shock. 10- Comes with screen protector installed, 10-watt Fast Charger, and USB-C cable. Setup was as expected with no issues at all. The phoneâs screen is clear and crisp, and it was easy to type and select without any glitches. Wi-Fi connected fast, I setup my Google account, and all my apps loaded from backup without any problems. One thing this phone doesnât have that I wished it did was NFC (Near Field Communication) capability so you can use Google Wallet to tap and pay for purchases. You canât use without NFC. Bummer! I did appreciate while setting up the phone is there isnât any bloatware or apps for advertising etc. The stock Android 13 comes as is. The layout of the buttons is slightly different than other phones Iâve had. The volume up and volume down button are on the right-hand side, but lower and next to the power on/off button that doubles as the fingerprint sensor. The SIM tray is on the top left side of the phone, and you do not require a SIM tool to open it. There is a rubber cover which is also part of the tray. You just use your fingernail to gently pry it open. There is no 3.5mm audio jack on this phone so wireless connectivity is the only option. The phone is responsive and just as good as my previous flagship model. Swiping is smooth without drag or jerky movements. Its sensitive to touch and the phone responds quickly. Even with multiple apps running in the background, I didnât notice any lag. The brightness level on this phone is slightly dull. Even at the highest brightness level, the phone just doesnât have the brightness compared to my previous phone. Side by side, the Umidigi is dull looking but by itself without comparison, its OK. I do wish it pushed out a brighter display. I was able to connect to my Network as soon as I inserted the SIM card. Keep in mind that this phone only works with Canadian Networks that share the Bell or Rogers infrastructures. Call quality is excellent. The speaker and mic work well too. No issues texting or using messenger. All connectivity worked without any glitches. One of the best features of this phone is the Rugged design. The phone feels heavy, but you can see the added protection in the molded case as part of its design. All 4 corners have an extra hard padded protective layer. The build and design seem rugged as advertised but Iâm not about to drop the phone to test it. The camera takes excellent pictures. I included just one in this review to show the color and sharpness at the default settings only. Conclusion: I like the phone. Wish it had NFC and a brighter display, but its hard to beat the specs on this phone for the price. You get a latest version of Android, 6.6â HD display, Dual SIM, 8/128 GB of Ram and Storage, 6000mAh long lasting battery, a 50MP camera, and the Rugged build to resist water, dust, and shock. At the time of this review, there is also an available 22.00-dollar coupon. This phone with all its features under 200.00-dollars is an exceptional bargain.
I’m not a huge tech person, so I’m not going to dive into the specs. This is a great budget phone, the phone itself is actually a bit heavier than your average mobile, but not significantly so. It’s “rugged” in that you don’t need to look for another phone case to put it in, the phone has pre built “bumper” around it and the casing that holds the battery is super secure. I haven’t tried actually throwing the phone, but I have accidentally dropped it a couple times from a standing position and it made out just fine. The camera is great, front and back, and it can play youtube videos smoothly. There’s no extra inflated bloatware installed and I’ve ran most of my usual apps on it just fine. I’m not a mobile gamer, but I do play a few graphics heavy games and they ran all right on the phone. Battery charge can last over a day for me if I’m not playing my apps often. It took a couple days to get used to where the buttons are, and I haven’t set up the fingerprint yet but it’s great. Honestly, there’s no need to spend $1k+ on a phone if you aren’t glued to it, something like this is perfect and much gentler on the wallet.
Returned for refund. Phone felt nice but really was not enough of an upgrade from my umidigi F1 purchased 3 years ago. If anything it felt slower. So the only real upgrade was the OS which historically umidigi does not offer upgrades to. My current phone is on Android 9. This was advertised as having a snapdragon processor when in fact it did not have that. It has a low end Unisoc 606. Also I had clicked on a sale item and was shipped and charged the normal price.
Loving these new Umidigi phones. This is the second phone from this brand that I’ve ordered and its even better than the last one (which i was very happy with). They are really bridging the gap to the $1K+ phones. I wont speak to the manufacturers spec’s, you can check the advert for that. That said, I will say that this phone feels like a premium brand in your hand. Looking the part too. So far I have had no issues with performance, sending/receiving calls and texts with ease. I have not anything more demanding yet like a FPS game, but will likely try in the near future. That should weed out any performance issues, if there are any. Its has been just as fast as I expected from a brand new phone. I like that it has expendable memory, I have run out of memory on iPhones before (from excess picture taking) and there is no way to expand the memory on iPhones. Popping an extra memory card in is an ideal solution to that. Speaking of picture taking, the camera is also quite good. I am always pleasantly surprised when using a new phone, how much phone cameras have advanced. Pictures are crisp. At this price range for a new phone in the Canadian market, I think this will be a hard to top. Easy 5/5 As always, I will update my review in the future if my opinion on the product changes. ~J
