Durable, inexpensive lights that reduce electricity consumption and enhance security
To reduce expenses and to help protect the environment, in early 2021 our household started taking a number of measures to cut our energy consumption. Those measures have proven successful: total 2021 electricity consumption in our single-family, detached home in the US SE was about 8,000 kWh (3,200 of which was for HVAC), compared to about 11,000 kWh annual average in previous years. [UPDATE on 1/1/23: our total electricity consumption in 2022 dropped even further to just 5,500 kWh (1,600 of which was for HVAC) for the year. We have HALVED our electricity consumption. Huge savings. These solar lights continue to operate beautifully despite exceptional heat this past summer and record-breaking winter cold these past weeks.]The installation of solar outside lighting is part of our strategy, allowing us to save over 150 kWh/year. We are very happy with our easy-to-install, durable Aootek solar lights, as well as with another set of solar lights we purchased from Amazon: Solar Lights Outdoor,WWimy 210 LED 2500LM Motion Sensor Lights with Remote Control, 3 Heads Security LED Flood Lights, IP65 Waterproof, 270° Wide Angle Illumination Wall Lights with 3 Modes (2 Packs): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08T9F2MM1Our lights, installed last fall, are all performing well over 6 months later. We shared some of these lights with relatives in the North; they also report that their lights are going strong after a rough winter. Here in our urban, sometimes crime-troubled setting, we like the fact that our lights shine extra bright when motion (possible thievesâ¦) is detected. Our relatives use their lights on their chicken yard; those lights shine bright when a different type of intruder comes by.Here are some other products we purchased at Amazon that we can recommend to those interested in cutting home energy consumption:STATINT Window Film Privacy One Way Daytime Mirror Static Non-Adhesive Solar Glass Film Heat Control: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07W3VCZNF Dramatically reduces amount of direct sunlight, gives privacy by day, and protects from shattering.Kuman KW47-US Electricity Usage Monitor Plug Power Watt Voltage Amps Meter with Digital LCD http://www.amazon.com/Electricity-Monitor-Voltage-Overload-Protection/dp/B07DPJ3RGB Looking back, we can say that purchasing a Usage Monitor Plug has been one of our wisest and most useful moves, and a very inexpensive one at that.Klein Tools TI250 Rechargeable Thermal Imager: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089QW8R9S This tool, along with the Usage Monitor Plug, gave us a very good picture of where we were wasting energy. It was thanks to this tool that we realized, for example, that our then uninsulated recessed lights were really problematic, prompting us to purchase the following.FF130E Recessed Light Cover: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002XVPUAO If you have recessed lights and theyâre not well insulated in the attic, energy wastage can be massive. They allow us to monitor temperature and humidity in four places at once: outside, in our living room, in our crawlspace, and in our unfinished attic. Thanks to these readings, we have established a smarter, more energy-efficient way of ventilating our crawlspace. They also helped us see that our attic needed additional ventilation in the roof, prompting us to purchase the following.4 SEASONS Solar Powered Polycarbonate Vent, Weatherproof Design, Quietly Cools Up to 500 Sq Ft, 400 CFM: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DMSCPJARYB HOME Room Darkening Patio Door Curtain, Hanging Room Divider Screen Insulated Drapes Privacy Wall Panel: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D32DJ2V , as well as RYB HOME Blackout Curtains & Drapes – Total Privacy Thermal Efficiency Backdrop Curtains for Bedroom Room Divider Vertical Blind Living Room Patio Sliding Glass Door: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077SZRBNJGrandekor Blackout Window Blinds and Shades Cordless Cellular Shades: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NWBGVL3

Love these solar lights. Nice product.
Easy to install, comes with hardware and handy template. I used rust resistant wire to hang them off of chain-link fence gates and wrought iron railingâ¦works great no drilling. Very bright, lights up area well. I like the motion detection setting, does a nice job of lighting deck steps too. Liked them so much I bought a second set. First set has been out about 6 weeks and working well. No problems, still bright!

Always great
I have purchased these lights at least 4 times now . Why ? Pros : 1) priced well 2) work as described 3) very bright 4) motion detection very sensitive . The only con ? On every one of mine , after about a year the solar panel begins to oxidize and develop a haze from uv . Over time this condition get worse and it eats away at the battery life and its run time. But 2 years is about what Iâve experienced for lifespan before the batteries donât charge much . To be fair : most solar stuff Iâve purchased do this from the uv rays as well . Lastly , my one change ? Have one more setting for a longer run time after motion . Maybe 3 or 5 minutes . The short time is annoying at times . All in all , these are still a great purchase.

Surprisingly effective!
Ok, so they’ve only been in service less than a week but, so far so good! I let them get an initial charge for a couple weeks actually before installing. I’m using them to light porch steps and a dark driveway so used 3M velcro pads to affix them to my vinyl siding. I’ve got them set to the “B” option, staying on at a dimmed light all night to come to full brightness when the motion detector is triggered. Perfect! They stay lit without trouble all through the night, even the dimmer lighting is plenty to do what I wanted and illuminate our dark steps and the driveway area. My one, small complaint is familiar with other users…I wish the motion detection range was adjustable in sensitivity somehow. One does have to be fairly close to trip the brighter lights. For My purposes it’s fine but for someone wanting their car to trip on approach up the drive for instance, I think they will be disappointed. The housings are lighter, but seem to be well made, they have a substantial photo panel to charge from, there are ample LEDs which put out a nice amount of light when full-bright. I have mine purposely set lower on the house at maybe 6′ high at the highest point and still get a more than ample light pattern. Installing them even higher should give one an even wider light pattern with no issue. They are somewhat unobtrusive, I think they will “blend” into the siding after seeing them for a few days. All in all…this is a great, inexpensive, option to add security lighting or just some area lighting around a home. Very satisfied with my purchase.edited 10/14/20Still madly “thumbs up” on these guys! My idea of using outdoor velcro to fasten them to vinyl siding so as to not have to drill through the siding is working great! One plus, when we lost power August 10th due to the Derecho (look it up) that hit our area, all I had to do was slip a couple of these lights from the house and I had super lighting INSIDE my house without using my generator! “What a smart idea..” why thank you yes it was! They continue to perform without a single problem, I think when my house gets it’s new siding (storm damage) I’ll reinstall these even lower than I have currently. I put them around 6ft high thinking I’d need that to get a good area of light in the driveway but I’m convinced they are bright enough I can lower them to even 3 ft off the ground and they’ll be fine. I still wish the sensor was a bit more sensitive or one could adjust it a bit to suit their needs but hey…for the money I have zero complaints. SUPER bright when triggered to full brightness and sufficiently bright even when in the dimmer “at rest” mode I’ve selected. Buy these without hesitation!!
