Customers say
Customers like the performance and sharpness of the knife sharpener. For example, they mention it works well, produces a super sharp edge, and is easy to use. That said, some complain about the fit and stability. They say the stones don’t stay secured in the holder and they start to loosen up. Opinions are mixed on ease of use, and value.

Very good product at a great price
All my kitchen knives are kept sharp, with this device I can take them to extremely sharp to just plain ludicrous! It takes a while to learn how to achieve the best possible edge, but once mastered the results are remarkable. The over all quality and construction is very good and should last a long time with proper care. Beware, changing stones should be done over a table, they are long and thin and will not survive a fall to the floor. Note: ludicrous level will actually shave hair off ones skin, but is not good for kitchen use as the edge will fold easily and go dull. Very hard knives take a bit longer, but the edge lasts a long time.

Supplied stones are very poor quality
The sharpener works great and not hard to use. However the stones supplied with it are poor quality and wear out quickly.. A couple of the higher grit stones seem to be decent but the rest are not…

Works well
The fact of the matter is this tool is great for sharpening if you know how to use a level. It was pretty easy to assemble and honestly the size didn’t take much room up. There is many stone grits so incase one breaks there’s another. The durability of the stones are great.

Actually made my knifes worse!
The tension system suck nothing stays tight I had to tighten it down with a channel lock AND IT STILL CAME loose. The spring is insufficient and let’s stones just fall out or come lose changing the angle. THIS THING CAN NOT HOLD AN ANGLE. Now I have to figure out how to fix this sharpener or buy another one…. But I do like the desk mount.. also the jaw covers are terrible and just slip there’s no real way to adhere them don’t use themEdit: after some 3D printing a replacement rod that was bent purchasing of the diamond stones I’ll say I’m ready to achieve the ultimate belved edge on my machete c:

Great sharpener but lacking in set up directions
Overall works great. I bought the metal upgrade swivel for this do to some complaints on longevity on original swivel. I can’t attest to that because I upgraded it right away and kept nylon swivel as a back up. I usually use a wet stone and hand sharpen by feel and eye. However, that can be tricky and time consuming. This hasn’t sped up the process that much for me, but it does keep a consistent angle for the knife bevel.I also bought a competitor diamond stones with similar size plates. They actually fit the RUIXIN PRO RX-008. I chose diamond plates for when I need to re-bevel and shape a severely chipped or dull blade. The stones are not bad but those are better for maintenance sharpening and upkeep. Where as diamond allows you to reshaping and re-bevel really dull blades. The key to sharpening is that you have to shape primary edge first then Secondary edge (cutting edge) last. I could be using the edge names backwards, however, the point is for extreme sharpness do as follows:1. Make sure blade is straight, not bent.2. Thin out main edge a little. To do this pick a flatter angle than cutting edge angle. For instance let’s say you want a 17 degree cutting edge. On this step you sharpening or thin to a 10 degree angle.3. Now that step 2 is done you increase angle to 17 degrees and sharpen. What I do is clamp down blade and bevel edge evenly until my nail catches a burr on opposite side of blade. Then I unscrew the blade turn over and repeat.Depending on the dullness of the blade will determine what grit to start with.If your knife is really dull you want to start at lower grits and slowly move up to next grit. At the very end use a flat strop or straightening chef hone. This will remove small burrs and straighten the cutting edge (pretty much microscopically). If you can see the burr with the naked eye that is not good. Also, One last thing do not use the clamp swivel clamp for sharpening (meaning pick a side to use. ) personally I chose hexagonal (allen wrench screws up). Even though this increases the sharpening time, it does two things for you, keeps same angle, if you flip clamp angles are different. So unscrew blade and manually flip blade and re-clamp. This Keeps you safer and keeps same angle. Because if that spring loaded part were to give out while you are pivoting it you could severely cut yourself. The swivel is for choosing an angle not for flipping and keeping same angle. If the design is for that than I’m sorry it will not work as intended. That being said as long as you manually flip blade and re-clamp you’ll be good with this.

Do Not Purchase! Horrible prouct!
I used this on two knives. It broke on the first one, but I tried working it out to make it through. First the instructions are terrible. I could make it past that because the process of sharpening knives isn’t too difficult. As soon as I started using the sharpener, two screws started stripping. The screw holding the guide rod to the unit that holds the stone stripped and wouldn’t maintain the position needed for sharpening. I even tried super gluing the rod in place and it held long enough for me to finish the two knives I was working with, then it came undone. Two of the stone provided cracked in half just by attempting to use them. The instructions show stones attached to a base piece that fits in the handle piece. None of the stones came in with the base attached and there wasn’t any base pieces provided. Long story short, none of the retaining pieces can be screwed in to maintain specific angles, none of the screws that hold things in place work because they strip out also. The stone provided are cheap and break apart with very little pressure, let alone day to day application. PLEASE, DO NOT PURCHASE THIS CHEAP HUNK OF JUNK! I’ve purchased two of these units, the first one lasted about two months before it broke apart and was useless. I figured it was user error and purchased a second sharpener, same type, but more expensive. I thought I would get more for the extra money. This one was broken within five minutes of use. TERRIBLE PRODUCT AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!

a good sharpening set, I would get a angle finder with it.
I use this to sharpen scissors around the shop. once its set up and you learn the basics its easy to use, the whet stones want to fall out so I suggest putting rubber bands on them

This setup works very well I have sharpened 8 to 10 knives already and they are razor sharp now. The stones do not sit well in the pressure fitting and one has fallen out and broken already in only a few days use

Not as good as the videos. But realistically does a very nice edge. Recommended.

Whetstone too soft and get worn easily but can be replaced with diamond ones. Gadget is good with ease of flipping knife. Needs greasing on balljoint for smooth operation. Value for money.

This was great for sharpening my knives. Is does leave stone dust on the floor but that is to be expected.

The unit itself I don’t mind – easy enough to setup and use. However, the stones my unit came with are so soft I can basically grind them away with my fingernail. They are absolute garbage!! Instead of a slurry of fillings from the blade you end up with a pile of ground up stone – this results in them wearing into strange shapes and….well they are just useless. And no I’m not using them on really hard blades – just normal kitchen knives. I haven’t found any ‘quality’ stones to use as a replacement yet but I had been using Shapton glass backed stones previously and therefore never ever expected a wet stone to be this soft!!
