heats up and blades come out
Bought this to cut thin plastic form and as I was cutting the blade came out with no way to re-tighten it in place. Not right tool for me.

Some good qualities, could use some small improvements
I ordered this for my daughter, who does a variety of handcrafts for which I thought this would be useful. I especially had acetate sheets in mind, since she uses them for several tasks. We tested the hot knife on a 2-liter pop bottle, since it would be comparable to an acetate sheet, and a few other thin plastic items from the recycling bin. This hot knife is…. okay. It does get pretty hot. The temperature control dial has ribbed texture around the edge for grip, but it has no register marks. It would be helpful to at least have some marks to help track where you’d positioned the dial. It would also be helpful to have a light or other indicator letting you know when the knife had reached temp. The metal stand is pretty thin – it’s adequate, but the cord is heavy enough with the temperature control module partway down that the knife doesn’t feel very secure on the stand. With something that’s both hot and sharp, I would feel safer if it was more stable. The knife did cut through our test items quite readily. There is a smell when plastic gets hot, no question. We tested outside – I strongly recommend that, or excellent ventilation at a minimum. The knife did perform decently. You want to be very careful not to touch your plastic item with the brass blade collar – it punched a melted hole in the pop bottle in a split second.I was able to carefully remove the blade we tried from its brass collar – just slipped in and out with a little careful wiggling. I can easily find multi-packs of replacement blades on Amazon for one of the blade shapes, but not the other two. So one style of blade is replaceable, the others seem to be less easily available.Overall, mostly decent.

Cuts through hard plastic too!
I wasn’t completely comfortable with working with this knife at first. But the fact that I was able to control the temp made it a little easier. With the correct adjustment to temperature, it will cut through hard plastic as well.

It worked fairly well the 1st 2 times I used it, then completely broke on 3rd.
As you can see from picture, it’s broken beyond repair. Which is a shame, since it has total use time of less than 1 hour. Plus I did never put a lot of force into it, I just used it to gently cut some plastic, and tip broke off during a cut while it was hot, fell on my carpet and screwed it all up.This is the Worst case scenario. Not even a refund can fix my huge carpet now. I will need to remove all heavy furniture on top of it, which is massive project on its own.I only bought this item because it claimed to have more watts then others. But what good is slightly more power if it’s going to break on you and screw everything up.You have been warned. Stay away, far away. Unless you only need to use it once and don’t care about it breaking on you, or burning your leg.

Cool for many Projects
This thing is actually pretty cool. I really like it because it lets you do a lot of DIY crafts. I actually cut up some Ziploc bags and I made smaller sized ones with this tool. Just be careful because it does get really hot. I really love that it has a little holder thing that you place it on. And just again beware the temperature does get quite hot so def need adult supervision for little kids.

Too hard to use. The razor never got hot enough to easily cut through a thin blank stencil sheet.
It was too hard on the fingers to cut stencils. Also, the razor stem that screwed into the handle broke off into the handle. And the razor constantly needed tightening while using it.

I will forevermore sing the praises of Hot Knife. You can cut. SO MANY THINGS. If only your knife is hot. I’ve been using it to sculpt/carve foam without changing my blade every 5 minutes, and I am a complete convert. This particular knife does heat up way more at the base of the blade than the tip- which you can see in the discoloring that happens naturally from heat over time- but for the price of this thing, given how much easier it makes crafting in general- i’m happy to use it till it crumbles to dust in my hands. All Hail Hot Knife.

Used it once and one of the 3 screw in knives came away from its screw, so it’s stuck in the body of the pen. Going back, useless
